Maharashtra - The Great Land

The literal meaning of Maharashtra is ‘A Great State’. The geography of Maharashtra seems to have a divine touch. The Western Ghats run through its length. The foothills of the ghats, at places, seem to withdraw away from the Arabian Sea. At other places they subtly approach the sea when the seawaters adorn their feet with silver anklets of their foams.

Nestling shyly in these mountains are Matheran, Mahabaleshwar, Amboli, Lonavala, Khandala, Karla and Panchgani - all hill stations of Maharashtra. These hill stations offer clean, calm and a thoroughly refreshing alternative to city life.

No matter what kind of holiday you are looking for, you will find it in Maharashtra. Whether it is lazing on the sun-swept sands of the 720 kms coastline, or a peaceful self-exile in the awe-inspiring mountains, or quiet worship at some famous shrines, or revelation in cave architecture, art and culture or challenging treks or abundant wildlife thrills, Maharashtra has it all.
